Are you looking to be give back to the Japanese American community, and be a part of an exciting and innovative team in launching and unprecedented nonprofit newspaper? The Nichi Bei Foundation is looking for a group of spirited individuals to join us as we strive to keep the community connected, informed and empowered.

Graphic Designers

The Nichi Bei Foundation is seeking friendly, energetic, and creative individuals to volunteer their services as graphic designers. Graphic designers will work with the Editorial staff to implement the overall layout and production of the Nichi Bei Weekly, the premier Japanese American weekly newspaper, as well as all other marketing and fundraising materials. The Graphic Designers will also work with the Editorial, Advertising and Development teams to create visual solutions to communicate advertising marketing and fundraising messages for various audiences.

Knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and Powerpoint), the Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.), Web design experience, and Quickbooks preferred. Japanese language capability a plus!

This may develop into a paid position, depending on funding secured.

Development Associates

The Nichi Bei Foundation is seeking motivated, friendly, energetic and creative individuals with experience in development, to volunteer their time and expertise to support our fundraising efforts.

The Development Associates will research and apply for targeted grant proposals. They will also conceive and implement fundraisers targeted toward high-end donors, as well as informal social events to raise awareness and increase support for the NBF. The Development Associates will nurture strategic partnerships with other nonprofits, as well as pursue donations from private donors and foundations. Knowledge of the Japanese American/Asian American community is preferred and Japanese language is a plus!

This may develop into a paid position, depending on funding secured.

Advertising Associates

The Nichi Bei Foundation is seeking motivated, friendly, energetic and creative individuals tovolunteer their time and expertise to support our advertising and marketing efforts. The Advertising Associates will be charged with marketing, Web strategy research and implementation, advertising maintenance, as well as expanding our subscriber/membership base of the Nichi Bei Weekly, the premier Japanese American weekly newspaper. Advertising Associates will promote current sponsorship NBF events (including helping to staff the NBF booth at community festivals), nurture strategic partnerships with corporations and nonprofits as well as engage in event planning, and other advertising and marketing endeavors.

Knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and Quickbooks preferred, but not necessary. Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) and Web design experience a plus. Knowledge of Japanese American community is preferred and Japanese language is a plus!

Editorial Staff and Contributing Writers

The Nichi Bei Foundation is seeking friendly, energetic, creative and self-motivated individuals who are looking to build their clips writing and editing for the premier Japanese American weekly newspaper, the Nichi Bei Weekly. Previous reporting and editing experience, and knowledge of AP Style desired. Individuals should be detail-oriented, deadline driven, and interested in proofreading and fact checking. Responsibilities may include layout and photography.

Knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel) and the Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) preferred. Knowledge of Japanese American community is preferred and Japanese language is a plus!

Office Staff

The Nichi Bei Foundation is seeking motivated, friendly, energetic, and creative individuals to volunteer with various administrative and subscription duties.

Office Staff will help to ensure the newspaper reaches our various subscribers and audiences as efficiently as possible, as well as fulfill subscribers’ requests. Office Staff will create and update various spreadsheets, operate databases (will be trained), invoice subscriptions, and support mailings. Office Staff may be asked to distribute issues to the South Bay once a week if they have a valid driver’s license, and access to a car. They will be reimbursed for gas mileage.

Knowledge of programs such as Quickbooks, Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel) and the Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.) preferred. Knowledge of Japanese American community is preferred and Japanese language is a plus!
